Nordyke Marmon & Company

Considered one of the finest engineering houses of its time, Nordyke and Marmon Company became known as America’s top mill builder. Furnishing complete machinery equipment for flour mills, corn mills, cereal mills, starch and rice mills and elevators, its founders and their descendants continued designing and making quality products for almost 130 years.

Flour mills such as this had 18′ French stone buhrs mounted in a heavy cast iron frame. It sold for $172 at the turn of the century.

This flour mill is still in use today at historic Falls Mill, TN. Built in 1873 as a cotton and woolen factory, the mill was later converted for use as a cotton gin, then as a woodworking shop.

This millstone, and others, are powered by the largest overshot water wheel known to exist in the United States, producing cornmeal, flour, and grits for sale to the public.
